Tendulkar to play exhibition game

Sachin Tendulkar will make his first appearance on India's cricket tour of New Zealand on Friday, but it will be in a lighthearted exhibition game and not for his country.

Tendulkar will play by invitation in a Twenty20 match between former Australia and New Zealand internationals preceding India's second Twenty20 International against New Zealand at Wellington.

Tendulkar's India teammate Dinesh Karthik will also play in the match which includes players such as Stephen Fleming, Kyle Mills and Andrew Jones for New Zealand and Greg Matthews, Brad Hogg and Greg Blewett for Australia.

Tendulkar will turn out for the New Zealand Cricket Players Association Masters while Karthik will be part of the opposition team, Australian Cricketer’s Association Masters.

Indian coach Gary Kirsten was pleased with the Player’s Association for including the Indian players in the line-ups and said that this is a good opportunity for Tendulkar and Karthik to have a few hits in the middle.

Tendulkar and Karthik are not part of India’s squad for the Twenty20 Internationals in New Zealand with the former having opted out of the shortest format of the game earlier this month. Both players, however, are part of the Indian squad for the upcoming one day internationals and Test series against the Kiwis.

Other players that will be seen in action tomorrow are New Zealand’s Dion Nash and Australia’s Darren Lehmann and Ian Healy.

The match will act as a curtain-raiser to the second Twenty20 International between New Zealand and India.

New Zealand defeated India in the first Twenty20 International by 7 wickets on February 25.

The second Twenty20 International will be followed by a five-match one day international series and a three-match Test series.
