Mendis released from hospital

Sri Lanka’s mystery spinner Ajantha Mendis has been released from hospital, two weeks after being trapped in the attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore, Pakistan.

Mendis was one of seven Sri Lankan players injured in the attack. Thilan Samaraweera and Mendis were admitted in a hospital in Colombo upon their return to Sri Lanka.

Mendis recently became the fastest player in history of the game to scalp 50 one-day international victims.

The Lankan players were injured when terrorists targeted the team bus as the team made its way to the Gadaffi Stadium for the third day of the second Test against Pakistan on March 3.

Samaraweera had suffered the most serious injury among the Lankan players. Doctors removed a bullet from Samaraweera's left thigh and he is expected to be discharged in 2-3 days.

Training for the rest of the team is expected to start from next week. The doctors informed that physiologists were also appointed to work with the players and that will continue for several more days.

Kumar Sangakkara is the new skipper of Sri Lanka after Mahela Jayawardena stepped down from the role after the second Test against Pakistan.
