The Sri Lankan government on Thursday appointed former Test leg spin bowler Somachandra de Silva as chairman of the sport's governing body.
De Silva, who played for Sri Lanka's first-ever Test team, replaces former captain Arjuna Ranatunga who was sacked as head of Sri Lanka Cricket earlier this year.
He played in 12 Test matches and 41 one-day internationals and also served as a cricket adviser to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Former Test bowler Pramodya Wickramasinghe and one-day player Nishantha Ranatunga are also on the seven-member committee, Sri Lanka Cricket said in a statement.
Cricket is the most popular and wealthiest sport in the country, but infighting among those seeking a spot on the board and political interference has resulted in elections for office holders not being held for the past five years.
