Sachin likely to miss final ODI

Indian batting ace Sachin Tedulkar is likely to miss the final one day international against New Zealand due to an abdomen injury.

The highest run scorer in ODIs was hit in the stomach from a delivery by Ian O'Brien during his majestic knock of 163 in the third ODI at Christchurch.

The blow aggravated an earlier sustained injury and Tendulkar, who was looking set for a record double century in the match, was in real discomfort while going for his big hits. He eventually retired hurt while still on 163.

Tendulkar subsequently missed the fourth ODI in Hamilton which his team won to clinch the series 3-0.

In 20 years of international cricket, this is probably the first instance that the master blaster from Mumbai has suffered internal bleeding as a result of a blow with a cricket ball.

An MRI scan, conducted at a hospital in Christchurch, revealed that there had been traces of internal bleeding, ruling him out of the next match.

India has already sealed the five match series 3-0 and the team management will not take any unnecessary risks as the idea is to keep India’s senior-most player fresh for the Test series, which begins in Hamilton from March 18.
